Handbook of Practical Electrical Design Review

Handbook of Practical Electrical Design

The McGraw-Hill cover misrepresents this book. It may preach to the choir but makes no converts. Concepts are long, obscure or ignored. The print is tight and some tables are not legible in places. The reader will learn little. Pedagogy is not the authors' strength. Having learned the basics of electricity in school I hoped for some of what the publisher promises, but was very dissappointed and 60 bucks poorer. Avoid my mistake.

Power Systems Analysis (2nd Edition) Review

Power Systems Analysis (2nd Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a teacher and researcher working in the power systems area for more than 35 years, I have great pleasure in welcoming a revised edition of Art Bergen's classic book on Power Systems Analysis. When the first edition came out in 1986, it was a trend setter for those entering an academic career. The presentation was fresh and different with challenging problems added to each chapter. The book combined control system concepts with power system models and provided insight into dynamic operation of power systems.
In the last three decades, power system analysis has made great progress and mathematical techniques of optimization and matrix analysis have become entrenched in problem solution. Matlab has become de facto tool for use in the class room. The revised edition recognizes these facts, and without affecting the originality of the first edition supplements material that is indispensable to any student of power systems.
It is a difficult balancing act to provide the required mathematical knowledge without losing track of the practical nature of power systems. I feel that Vittal has achieved this.
There is a number of other books on power system analysis in the market, but the approach in most of the cases is similar to the classic book of Stevenson.
I would recommend the book for a senior level power system course in a 4-year program and as a reference to graduate students requiring a foundation in power systems.

Electrical Power Equipment Maintenance and Testing (Power Engineering (Willis)) Review

Electrical Power Equipment Maintenance and Testing (Power Engineering (Willis))

This book provides the most comprehensive overview I have found thus far for engineers and field professionals involved in the maintenance and testing electrical power systems and equipment. The author presents the materials very effectively. The book is both an indispensible resource for the practicing engineer, as well as an ideal training tool for teachers and students engaged in primary and continuing education in this field.

Electrical Grounding Review

Electrical Grounding

I recommend this book to fellow students anywhere. I am a first year electrical student at Metro Community College's South Omaha campus in Omaha, NE. Electrical grounding is one of the most important areas to educate yourself if you are going into the field or if you are a seasoned professional. Loss of life, property damage and potential lawsuits are what await those who do not educate themselves. Fortunately, this book is very easy to read. ( This review is written and submitted by Racquel Marshall-Kirkeby)

The sixth edition of Electrical Grounding has been thoroughly updated in accordance with the 2002 National Electrical Code (NEC), including a major reorganization of sections in Chapter 3 of the NEC and increased use of metric measurements. Early chapters serve as an orientation to the "what" and "why" of grounding, including explanations of the electrical theory and terminology used in Article 250 of the NEC. Subsequent chapters of the book permit readers to explore individual conductors used in the grounding system in detail, starting with the grounding electrode. Permitted materials (including metal, steel and encased concrete), installation, sizing, and potential pitfalls are addressed. Once readers have become comfortable with basic installations, the book devotes attention to special installations, such as: separately derived systems, multiple buildings or structures served by a common service, high-voltage installations, and the use of ground-fault protection. The author's unique systematic approach has served as an effective path to true understanding of every phase of electrical grounding for countless journeyman electricians.

Power Systems Modelling and Fault Analysis: Theory and Practice (Newnes Power Engineering Series) Review

Power Systems Modelling and Fault Analysis: Theory and Practice (Newnes Power Engineering Series)
Average Reviews:

Dr. Tleis adopts a refreshing approach in this much-needed reference book. The subject matter is very clearly and logically presented, and the treatment is laudably comprehensive, with no stone left unturned in his analysis. A large number of helpful explanatory diagrams are also included within the text and many practical solved examples, and a full list of references and suggestions for further reading provided at the end of each chapter. In short, this extremely thoroughly-written book will doubtless become a standard text of enduring use to both academics and industry practitioners. At this price (particularly for a hardback edition) the book represents very good value for money, and as such will be readily accessible to students, academics and practising engineers alike.

This book provides a comprehensive practical treatment of the modelling of electrical power systems, and the theory and practice of fault analysis of power systems covering detailed and advanced theories as well as modern industry practices. The continuity and quality of electricity delivered safely and economically by today's and future's electrical power networks are important for both developed and developing economies. The correct modelling of power system equipment and correct fault analysis of electrical networks are pre-requisite to ensuring safety and they play a critical role in the identification of economic network investments. Environmental and economic factors require engineers to maximise the use of existing assets which in turn require accurate modelling and analysis techniques. The technology described in this book will always be required for the safe and economic design and operation of electrical power systems. The book describes relevant advances in industry such as in the areas of international standards developments, emerging new generation technologies such as wind turbine generators, fault current limiters, multi-phase fault analysis, measurement of equipment parameters, probabilistic short-circuit analysis and electrical interference. *A fully up-to-date guide to the analysis and practical troubleshooting of short-circuit faults in electricity utilities and industrial power systems*Covers generators, transformers, substations, overhead power lines and industrial systems with a focus on best-practice techniques, safety issues, power system planning and economics.*North American and British / European standards covered
