(More customer reviews)I like the book for the following reasons and many more: -covers both routers & switches -covers the show commands as well as the equivalent SNMP objects -tells me the inside information (e.g.) Which ver of IOS started supporting sub-interfaces, IOS hidden commands -tells me how I can leverage applications like HpOV NNM, MRTG etc
And it tells all this and more in a simple language (e.g.) The chapter on monitoring CPU & Memory resources explains lucidly how one can be proactive about monitoring these 2 key elements.
The chapter on VLAN management is another good example. One of the topics it covers is about monitoring spanning tree topology changes, how you can use community string indexing to get vlan information for each individual vlan

All and all, highly recommend this review disc. I used it to study for my test and passed easily. The CD is great and has TONS of questions! The questions were set up just like the real exam questions This is all you need to study and pass.

(More customer reviews)Eventually we are all going to have to migrate on the Internet from IPv4 to IPv6. To be sure, this has taken longer than expected. But the sheer exhaustion of IPv4 addresses is bound to happen, and is a fundamental driver of the transition. So if you are a network programmer wondering about career trends, Stockebrand's book can be a useful consult.
He presupposes that you're already familiar with how IPv4 operates. You are then shown how IPv6 is much more powerful. Not just with the effectively infinite address space. But with how other drawbacks of IPv4 were addressed by the v6 designers. One of which is how v4 has no intrinsic Quality of Service. Current attempts to impose a QoS over v4 are crude and rather ad hoc. Whereas v6 has this built in as one of its fundamental properties.
Another v6 innovation is for Mobile IP, ie. nomadic computing. For this to be efficiently implemented, v4 falls short. But v6 gives a far simpler implementation. Thus Mobile IP may end up being one of the factors pushing for v6.

As a recertification candidate I was floored by the amount of new material covered by the current CCNA exams. Todd Lammle has such a great way of presenting the material as it relates to the Cisco CCNA exam objectives, but also with respect to what we CCNA's do every day. Read this book, listen to Mr. Lammle's guidance, work the labs with real equipment or a great simulator like RouterSim's Network Visualizer, and pass the exam! This book is the best, and in my opinion the only, CCNA book you need.

My sincere advice to any serious reader on IPv6 would be, never go for this book. It gives no information but stories about how internet evolved and kind of stuff. And anybody who is working deeply on IPv4 would know that. And this book gives fifty to sixty pages of printed RFCs, may be to make the book bulky.
