Microsoft Visio Standard 2007 Version Upgrade Review

Microsoft Visio Standard 2007 Version Upgrade

I own Visio versions since the very first version before Microsoft bought the company.
Visio is a great product for makng organization charts, floor plans, diagrams, strip maps etc.
This latest version is designed to work in Vista and with the latest office product versions.
One thing I noticed is that this version of Visio lacks the current office 2007 interface. So it kinda of feel like it is one version behind.
I wish that microsoft would finally go ahead and just make Visio a permanent part of the office package. Also they need to just have one version. Why do they have the profession edition that comes with a few extra templates (none of which are worth the price). I have own both versions of Visio and I find it very frustrating that if you want to do a quick electrical diagram you have to buy the professional edition. The professional edition offers very specific type templates such as electrical, electronic, architecture etc.
The software shipped rather quickly. I had one minor installation problem where the upgrade would not install due to previous version I own.
I had to go to the microsoft web help site. Fortunately I found why it would not install and fixed the problem. I tried upgrading from a very old version of Visio on CD ROM and the software couldnt not find the dll file to validate. I got an install error message. I went to Microsoft help and discovered I had to point the validation tool to another directory on the CD ROM. Not sure why microsoft didnt build it into the installer.

Power Systems Analysis (2nd Edition) Review

Power Systems Analysis (2nd Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a teacher and researcher working in the power systems area for more than 35 years, I have great pleasure in welcoming a revised edition of Art Bergen's classic book on Power Systems Analysis. When the first edition came out in 1986, it was a trend setter for those entering an academic career. The presentation was fresh and different with challenging problems added to each chapter. The book combined control system concepts with power system models and provided insight into dynamic operation of power systems.
In the last three decades, power system analysis has made great progress and mathematical techniques of optimization and matrix analysis have become entrenched in problem solution. Matlab has become de facto tool for use in the class room. The revised edition recognizes these facts, and without affecting the originality of the first edition supplements material that is indispensable to any student of power systems.
It is a difficult balancing act to provide the required mathematical knowledge without losing track of the practical nature of power systems. I feel that Vittal has achieved this.
There is a number of other books on power system analysis in the market, but the approach in most of the cases is similar to the classic book of Stevenson.
I would recommend the book for a senior level power system course in a 4-year program and as a reference to graduate students requiring a foundation in power systems.

Power Systems Modelling and Fault Analysis: Theory and Practice (Newnes Power Engineering Series) Review

Power Systems Modelling and Fault Analysis: Theory and Practice (Newnes Power Engineering Series)
Average Reviews:

Dr. Tleis adopts a refreshing approach in this much-needed reference book. The subject matter is very clearly and logically presented, and the treatment is laudably comprehensive, with no stone left unturned in his analysis. A large number of helpful explanatory diagrams are also included within the text and many practical solved examples, and a full list of references and suggestions for further reading provided at the end of each chapter. In short, this extremely thoroughly-written book will doubtless become a standard text of enduring use to both academics and industry practitioners. At this price (particularly for a hardback edition) the book represents very good value for money, and as such will be readily accessible to students, academics and practising engineers alike.

This book provides a comprehensive practical treatment of the modelling of electrical power systems, and the theory and practice of fault analysis of power systems covering detailed and advanced theories as well as modern industry practices. The continuity and quality of electricity delivered safely and economically by today's and future's electrical power networks are important for both developed and developing economies. The correct modelling of power system equipment and correct fault analysis of electrical networks are pre-requisite to ensuring safety and they play a critical role in the identification of economic network investments. Environmental and economic factors require engineers to maximise the use of existing assets which in turn require accurate modelling and analysis techniques. The technology described in this book will always be required for the safe and economic design and operation of electrical power systems. The book describes relevant advances in industry such as in the areas of international standards developments, emerging new generation technologies such as wind turbine generators, fault current limiters, multi-phase fault analysis, measurement of equipment parameters, probabilistic short-circuit analysis and electrical interference. *A fully up-to-date guide to the analysis and practical troubleshooting of short-circuit faults in electricity utilities and industrial power systems*Covers generators, transformers, substations, overhead power lines and industrial systems with a focus on best-practice techniques, safety issues, power system planning and economics.*North American and British / European standards covered

Network Management: Concepts and Practice, A Hands-On Approach Review

Network Management: Concepts and Practice, A Hands-On Approach

This outdated text should be put to pasture. When was this thing written, 1995? In computer terms it may as well been written in Latin. Thanks for describing Win95 and all about 10base2 thin for us. Very helpful. The most recent "edition" was to inform us that our latest threat comes from "terrorism." Nice. If you want to know the history of network computing, buy another book. If you want to config your NT 4.0 network, buy another book. In short, buy another book.

Especially designed for those with limited background in network management, this volume presents the standard networking concepts and provides readers with one of the only books available to demonstrate how to practice those concepts on a small LAN. The manual uses a network management application that enables users to focus on the fundamentals of network management rather than components important on large production networks. The author provides an overview of network management and network management strategies, networking components, configuration client/server components and infrastructure components, as well as SNMP, RMON, RMON2 and other network management tools and initiatives. For Network Administrators, Network Managers and Network Engineers.
