The technical Support was incredibly helpful and even assisted me with non-related Windows problems. I just recently took advantage of their upgrade path to Windows 2000 and ther new version 8.1 screams in performance and ease of use. I also used their new product Desktop DNA to migrate my settings and Apps from my old Win 98 PC to the new Sony VAIO Win2000 PC. Kudos to Miramar for the quality of PCMaclan and Desktop DNA

The Sims Superstar Expansion Pack Review

(More customer reviews)Many reviews have already described all of the new interactions and items that come with this expansion pack, so I'll focus on some of the things that may not be mentioned that I would have wanted to know before buying it.
1. Overall I would say this expansion involves more work than the others. Becoming famous is an all consuming occupation leaving your Sims little time for anything else. Sims must spend countless hours in Studiotown.
2. The game cannot be saved while a Sim is in Studiotown (much like the downtown area of Hot Date). This is a problem if you experience frequent crashes with your game. I find I need to take my Sim home where I can save the game every time he/she has raised their fame score, so that I don't lose it because of a crash. This is time consuming.
3. Sims run out of energy very quickly in Studiotown so not much can be accomplished in each visit. (only one visit is allowed per day)
4. Sims need famous friends in order to become famous. I find it very difficult to make friends with these famous Sims, the friendship scores don't seem to increase as quickly as with regular Sims.
5. This one only applies if you have downloaded objects from online Sims sites: I have a user-created teleporter in my game, and it no longer works. The game crashes whenever I try to use it. This forces me to use the phone to invite other Sims over, leaving it up to chance rather than being able to import them at will. (Much harder to increase the friendship score this way). Teleporters worked with every other expansion pack, but not Superstar as of yet (hopefully someone will fix this).
I don't mean to point out only the negative aspects of the game, I do enjoy this game but am a little disappointed that it takes so much more work than I had expected. I do love all of the new interactions that are available, and like watching my Sims sing, act or model. I'm still looking forward to an obsessed fan following my famous Sim home. My Sims don't have a high enough fame score for that yet :) (Also, there aren't really 3 separate career paths, Sims access all of the items one at a time as their fame score increases, so they are essentially rock stars, actors and models).
Overall, if you love the Sims, you'll love this expansion pack as well. But be prepared to spend a lot of time trying to become famous.

(More customer reviews)I usually don't write reviews, good or bad, because I'm a lazy man, but this here takes the cake. doesn't really work as it should: half the time you can't connect to the internet anymore, the other half the computer's frozen. now I'm fairly comfortable with computers, did my share of tweaking and configuring, but ghostsurf's just not playing nice. tried contacting customer service four times, but it's like shouting at a deaf man: no response. not even a "thanks for your e-mail, but we'll politely not do anything about it". nothing. just plain infuriating. hope this here gets through. crossing my fingers.

Inter Security Ste Plus 2008 Review

(More customer reviews)I had used CA ISS 2007 without problems, and really loved it, compared to five or six others, largely because of the technical support. I have 5 computers so bought two of the CA ISS 2008 programs. The computers running WXP/SP2 are more or less ok, but I have had nightmares with the Vista computers, especially the business one with a lot of programs which had an upgrade from WXP/SP2 to Windows Vista Home Premium. The computer kept locking up; eventually, HP had me do a complete system recovery, from new HP-purchased recovery discs. It took three days to get everything back on line; it worked well UNTIL I put in the CA ISS 2008, when the lockups came back. I had to manually shut down and restart in Safe Mode and uninstall CA ISS 2008. I tried all the obvious things -- firewalls off, cache cleaning, spyware and virus scans, installing each feature one at a time, etc. -- and nothing worked. CA has been completely uninterested -- nothing in the online database, responses from online that indicate they hadn't even read my complaint fully, etc. I have already junked the programs and am trying Norton 360, which comes through my ISP (Earthlink); it costs a bit more than the CA, but at least the computer works. This software really deserves a minus five stars, but it isn't an option.

Win Svr Std 2008 32Bit/x64 English 1pk Review

(More customer reviews)Normally I buy the precious versions of microsoft products because they are buggy or difficult to use until the next version comes out. Not the case here though. Installation was super easy and haven't experienced any problems with the instance yet. The server management is much easier in 2008. However, I wouldn't recommend purchasing or installing this until you have read a good book about some of the new features in it and how best to run it.
For those non-techie reader, this product is not for you.
For those techie readers, good choice without doubt, the biggest problem I have had was with IIS after I installed IIS FTP 7.5... Making a bunch of changes to a single FTP site caused the site to get botched and I ended up having to delete the si and create it with anew name.

Fallout 3 Game Ad-On Pack: Broken Steel and Point Lookout Review

(More customer reviews)Broken Steel does for Fallout 3 what the Extended Editions did for Lord of the Rings: by adding more and deeper content it makes you care more and feel like things have properly been resolved. Plus, after the dramatic, explosion-packed finale, you get to play on as long as you like with a raised level cap.
Point Lookout adds a huge swampy area for you too look around with plenty to see and do. The quest is fun and interesting and there are some great characters and locations. It's a great Fallout add-on, but those who enjoyed Bethesda's Shivering Isles and Morrowind will enjoy the landscape too.

(More customer reviews)Bought the software to use with an 851 router. The router software was so ridiculously buggy, I never even bothered to open or install the VPN client software. Just returned the router (for a full and complete refund - thank you Amazon).
However, the VPN client return was completely rejected by the vendor Galactics, since it didn't have the original (non-Cisco) box. The CD was never removed from the sleeve, and the protection label never disturbed, so it should have at the worst received a restocking fee. Will never do business with Galactics again.

My son spent less than an hour to soar through the first of several worlds, when he completed level one the game instructed him to have a parent become a member on [...] for 7.99 a month to access the rest of the game. If the box indicated I needed the membership to play it, I'd not have bought it, I wasn't looking to spend well over a hundred dollars for a computer game for my four year old. I emailed the company and have received no response, I will not be purchasing from them any time soon, and I suggest no one else does either.

Although not as graphically beautiful as SimCity 3000, it is considerably more playable and almost as detailed. In addition to the ability to design and build your own city, something that can be endlessly fascinating, there are several interesting scenarios good for an hour or two of play. Also, this game is well worth your consideration if you have an older computer. It runs beautifully on everything from a 486-66 up.
If you haven't played SimCity 2000 yet, you owe it to yourself to check out the game I firmly believe was Maxis' finest creation.

WordPerfect Office X5 Standard Upgrade Review

(More customer reviews)I have a real soft spot in my heart for WordPerfect since I used WP10 to write my dissertation. I've used WP12 and WPX4, and I have to say that there is not much here for WPX4 users to merit an upgrade. Most of the improvements in X5 are geared towards government and business users, and there are few noticeable differences between X4 and X5. The biggest ones I can see are: Thunderbird for mail (which, of course, you can get for free online), being able to save in the .docx format (which is significant), Nuance PaperPort SE (haven't used yet, so can't comment). A lot of the demands of longtime WP devotees (like unicode support, improved interface for document review/track changes, etc.) have not been addressed. To me, it seems that Corel sometimes pushes out new versions that could very well have been service packs instead.
That said, I'm glad I purchased it, as I greatly prefer WP to Microsoft Word and to OpenOffice Writer. Unfortunately, I have never gotten the hang of Presentations, and I think that PowerPoint is vastly superior. I don't use spreadsheets enough to compare Quattro Pro to Excel, as my spreadsheet needs are simple enough to be met by either program. I could have stuck with X4, but I also like supporting the ongoing development of WP by purchasing the product. I purchased this upgrade straight from Corel, but the pricing is similar here as it is there.
I hope that Corel devotes more resources to keep WP going and maybe even tries to bring Presentations up to speed. This release is not a "game-changer", but it does seem solid, stable, and retains so much of what makes WP a great word processor.

(More customer reviews)Despite the negative reviews of this game by others, I found the game to be pretty enjoyable. Yes, it's true that the game offers basically no music or sound effects. It has a simple black and white display with a few different pictures that appear depending on the type of show you are broadcasting. What makes up for the lack of sound and pretty visuals is the game's addictiveness. It's just fun being able to be in charge of a tv station and broadcast a wide variety of shows, depending on what you want people to watch. It also allows you to advertise for companies that will pay you money if a large enough audience watches your shows. And for a $10 game, it's also pretty complex. You must broadcast certain types of shows with certain elements for a certain age group at a certain time of day to get good ratings! This is all a little confusing at first, but luckily there is an online guide available for the game for free (at the "game butler" start up screen there is a link). May I conclude this review by saying that you will be DISAPPOINTED if you want good visuals and sound. But for $10, TV Tycoon will give you a semi-addictive, fun, and entertaining game that is definitely worth the small price. Give it a try.
