(More customer reviews)Words of caution. Test #640-507 was released in Aug of 2000. This book came out in April of 2000. I found out "AFTER " I read the book, took the test, didn't pass, and searched for new study material. The book cover says that it is for test 640-507 but it misses the mark. I found the book to be generally useful. Lots of good info. Everything was explained clearly. Good book to have on your desk. For test preperation, look for a newer book.

(More customer reviews)Very Good Book. If you didn't know already the CCNA exam is no Joke. You really have to know the concepts and you really need a good book to prepare for it. Cisco is not giving the CCNA Certificate away anymore. They really want you to learn and earn it. I purchase this because I felt the sybex CCNA didn't cover the exam in full detail (Especially the NAT section). This Book is Well Written. The Price wasn't that bad either since it came with 2 Books (Intro&ICND) and a 30min Video CD. You won't be disappointed. A+

(More customer reviews)Purchased this as a textbook for an Introduction to Networking course. Only negative is that CISCO is still using Windows XP on ALL their labs. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, you will need to adapt to different screen shots. As this is a thick text, I took it to FedEx Office [formerly Kinko's] and had it spiral bound into 3 sections: 1. Textbook, 2. Labs & 3. Answers, glossary & index. Good basic intro book.

The test engine is broken however. It has multiple choice buttons where you clearly need to select more than one answer, yet can only choose one. Some questions are totally wrong, so verify each wrong answer you get from the test engine before you count it or commit it to memory for the CCNA.
It is good in helping you understand the type of questions you will encounter, from CLI, to move boxes around, to type out the answers. (Spelling does count and I have been told it does on the CCNA as well.) The fact that if you type "router" and it wants "routers" is just wrong and messed up. Many questions have been missed because I typed "Spanning-tree" and it wanted "Spanning-tree protocol". Note it will not take STP either. IMHO: A serious flaw in Cisco's testing and this flash card kit. One note I recommend. Hand Write all your flash cards. Don't rely on the print outs. You will have better retention.
For the money, it is worth a buy. It is helpful in orienting you to the new 607 test format. If nothing else, it forces you to double check your wrong answers. Just don't count on it to be totally accurate and don't let it's flawed low test scores discourage you.

(More customer reviews)I recently passed the CCNA. I used this book along with Todd Lammle's study guide and Certsim. The flash cards have great info and are more than just flash cards. The appendix in the end has great info and the answers have great descriptions. This book has lots of great info but covers alot of topics you won't find on the exam. The practice exam it comes with doesn't even have the same types of questions you would find on the exam. I think the worst part is the simulated questions that are way too easy. They ask you to do basic router configurations like setting the hostname. Questions like these won't be on the exam. If you are looking to pass the exam you should use Todd Lammle's study guide along with Certsim from routersim.com. The test questions are close and even word for word on a few. The simulation questions are excellent.
